The work I am exhibiting at the Diaspora Pavilion is concerned with the invisibility of the remarkable world-changing achievements of women throughout history across the world. The work is entitled ‘Overlooked and Underreported’ and consists of two components – a textural golden plaque and a figurative image based piece. My mentee, Ray Fiasco and I both arrived in Venice a few days prior to the opening of the in the 57th Venice Biennale in order to work on the installation and the possibilities of film. This production time gave us an unexpected chance to become more familiar with each other’s working practices as well as the opportunity to produce something together during the opening week.
