In Conversation with: The Women of Colour Index Reading Group
Lively discussion and presentation at the Wellcome Collection on Friday 14th October 2018 led by the founders of the Women of Colour Index Reading Group. The discourse centred around this unique archive developed by the artist, Rita Keegan. The archive charts the emergence of ‘women of colour’ artists during the 1980s and 1990s.
This Index is the only written record of their work for so many of these artists. The collection is accessible as part of Women’s Art Library/Make at Goldsmiths, University of London [https://www.gold.ac.uk/make/collection/]. During this event, I and the audience/participants joined the reading group to discuss my current work and how the WOC Index acts as a ‘time capsule’.
This event was part of Daylighting, a four-day programme of events to challenge archives, change narratives and amplify new voices [https://wellcomecollection.org/events/W5fKOiYAACYAMt8T].
