“For an artist who has always been as concerned with listening as with looking, Joy Gregory’s first major retrospective feels less like a career survey than a continuing dialogue. Indeed, while the exhibition itself has been three years in the making and covers 40 years’ worth of work, Gregory says it has been more a process of reconnection than reflection.
“It’s quite amazing to see how things speak to each other,” she says. “Because often when I make work, I just move from one project to the next. I rarely revisit things; I’m always moving forward. But when I look at something from the 1980s or 90s, I can clearly see how it relates to what’s going on in 2025, and to the work I’m doing now.” ”
