Darwin's Wall
(2004-05-23)
In 1999 I participated in a Triangle Arts International artists workshop in rural North Wales, based in a large property where Darwin began his work on origin of the species. Inspired by my environment and the people around me I embarked a piece which involved collecting plants and flowers from the surrounding area and renaming them according to appearance and the location where they were found.
Using the plants as my negatives I printed onto black slate using gold gum bichromate. The names of the plants were re-invented and used as the basis for a children’s story. I wove into a narrative of nonsense. This narrative I cut into pieces and distributed to the other artist on the workshop for them to translate into their mother tongue or local dialect.
