The Beauty of Distance': Songs of Survival in a Precarious Age
La Gomera will premiere at the 17th Bienale of Sydney on the 12th May 2010. This film focuses on the once threatened language of El Silbo, peculiar to the island of La Gomera in the Canaries.
This piece looks at the close relationship between topography and language development as well as the wider issue of language endangerment. It is the first of a series of works resulting from a long period of research which began at a conference in Broome, Western Australia.
Renown as one of the largest and most exciting international festival of contemporary art, The Biennale of Sydney has creates unique opportunities for direct contact between artists, writers, and curators around the world. Since its inception it has continued to act as a catalyst for cultural development and discussion.
