British Council Nigeria - Photography Mentorship Programme

Joy was invited by the British Council in Nigeria to mentor a group of eight emerging Nigerian photographers who travelled to major regions of the country focusing on the issue of the climate change. Support for the photographers involved introducing to the to current issues and concerns in contemporary photography both in the UK and further afield, as well as guiding them through different shooting strategies in the field.

Working alongside fellow photographer George Georgiou everyone in the involved project explored different approaches to editing the photographs back in the studio. Most participants had each shot something approaching 2,ooo images.The project ran for 10 days during February and March with the resulting work being very broad based. Each the photographer demonstrated a very different approach to project, all showing a range effects that climate change has on the environment, the people and their health.

The work produced resulted in a publication and a touring exhibition which has been shown in Lagos, Kano and Abuja to date.
