The 'Missing Chapter' - Launch
(2008-05-21)
The Archive and Research Centre for Culturally Diverse Photography will be the UK’s first print and digital resource for a unique collection of photographs documenting the emergence of post-war Britain as a multicultural society. Preserving this important visual heritage will create a lasting legacy of a significant era in Britain’s multi-layered history. A public archive has been an objective for Autograph ABP since 1991 and this project builds on Autograph’s record of supporting historically marginalized work.
The launch will be framed by a panel discussion looking at the development of culturally diverse photographic practice in the UK historically. It will examine how, as a fully contextualized digital image bank and research resource, the archive holds the potential to transform the way Britain’s cultural history is represented.
Chair: Renee Mussai
Panel: Joy Gregory, Sunil Gupta, Professor Stuart Hall, Mark Sealy and Dr. Roshini Kempadoo
