The Amberley Queens

A series of nine portraits with text panels based on the Amberley Panels commissioned in 1539 by Bishop of Chichester just prior to a visit from King Henry VIII, who was of the mind to dispose of his Queen, Catherine of Aragon.

Referencing the Nine Women Worthies, a popular area of representation during the Tudor period, all the women represented were known just as empire builders and great leaders and personified great courage and virtue in the face of adversity.
